The Fly(lady) in the Ointment
I'm lazy. There, I've said it and hopefully you haven't run away in disgust. I would infinitly prefer to sit on my couch and sew or read than get off my rapidly expanding butt and do something, anything about the mess my flat is in. For years I've put it down to disorganisation but well, it is time to face facts. No amount of lists, programmes or control journals is going to solve the problem. Today I started writing down three things that I have to do then and there. No diversions, or sitting down until they are done. When they are ticked off I write out another three and so on. Has it worked? Well my bathroom, utility room, kitchen and hall are tidy, not clean, but tidy. It's a start. I only hope I can be bothered to continue.

If you figure out the secret make sure that you let me know. I really need a Lazy Antivenom.
Why would you want to get off your arse and clean anyway? What's so great about cleaning? You're not lazy, you just have a perfectly natural aversion to boring drudgery.
That's normal that is.
Good luck with the lists of 3! I should probably stop blogging and go do dishes now myself ...
Reasons to continue?---it'll make you feel better when the flat looks nice....
Lazy here too Velcro :-) To keep yourself going maybe just tackle three at a time and then have a rest and some sewing or reading as a reward. Cleaning is a thankless task (as I recently blogged about!) but peck away at it, be indifferent (as best as one can) to the process and reward yourself with a job well done.
I'm lazy too. I tell everyone my excuse is four years old and seems to have some phobia about tidy toys...
Me too !!!
I am not someone you simply 'pop in on'. Not unless you want me to hate you, and be totally on edge the whole time you're here.
If the sun's shining, i'm out in the garden. I'd rather be dirty, than inside, cleaning. bletch !!
Well, I'm not lazy - shame on you. I'm just about to get on and do the weekly clean of the house... once I've done a little blogging...
After all that work, you deserve chocolate. Go have some now. Then have 2 more. That will take care of another 3 things! See how well you are doing?
Phew! I thought no one was going to comment on this post and I would either have had to delete it and pretend it had never appeared or have slunk off, tail betwix legs in shame.
Day 2 of the Rule of 3 and the master bedroom is slowly appearing from under the mass of rubbish piled on everything. Have booked a weekend in MrV's diary (he works days, evenings and weekends so I can live the life of luxury) to dejunk the bedroom completely. Note to self, check with downstairs neighbours that they aren't keeping the dead christmas tree in the front yard for any particular reason BEFORE arranging for it to be hauled away to the rubbish dump. Do not want a repeat of the rubbish bin situation!
Being lazy is a virtue, an art form in fact. Lets face it, sitting on one's large pregnant bum beats housework any day - there's going to be enough of that when the little one arrives and this is our last chance to relax.
I start big jobs enthusiastically with the best of intentions, then 2 hours later I'm bored with the whole thing and run out of steam. The job gets left then for another year or more, or until I can be bothered again.
I rather like Mrs T's approach....leave if for another year.
Oh to be monied & have someone do it all for you!
I don't consider it laziness.
I think we are all tired of cleaning it only to have it look the same five minutes later.
I can't even finish the kitchen before somebody is in using it.
You are not alone! And the only real answer is a cleaning lady!! Wish I had one.
A clean house is overrated. Velcro, are you nesting already?
caro I've just finished vacuuming and mopping the kitchen and am desperately trying to keep the FB out of there. He on the otherhand is trying to get in there to play with his playdough...lots of little bits of dried up playdough all over the floor no no no no no
Meggie and Ali, my family had houseboys when I was growing up. They did all the housework, the laundry, gardening etc etc. My mother must have had such an easy life!
MrsT if only I could leave everything for another year but alas as things stand there is so much junk lying about that there is nowhere to put the Peanut when he finally arrives.
Enjoy your period of quietness and calm before the Little Miss T arrives, it all changes then.
Liz, I hope not! On the other hand to be able to walk normally, breathe, and sleep on my stomach....
