The FB's school has chosen, with great wisdom and forethought, to use as part of their uniform, white shirts. For four years old. The FB has been at school for 3 weeks, has 3 tops, none of which are unstained. One has a huge mudstain right up the back. It won't come out. Neither will all the tomato stains.
My only solution therefore was to go out and replace them all. Except that the shops have stopped selling school uniforms now.
Pass the valium will you.
(I wanted to post a photo of the FB in his uniform before it was trashed, but the cable for the camera is in one of those boxes over there. You can be assured he looked utterly gorgeous and so so grownup)

I have found through trial and error that direct bright sunlight makes tomato stains disappear like magic.
Although...in Scotland, perhaps that is a harder option than it sounds? :)
We don't have a uniform, and no-one at our school cares if the Climber turns up in stained shirts. Which he does daily. Lucky for me. I favour napi-san ( a nappy soaking detergent) but who am I kidding, my kids look like scruffy urchins anyway.
I think you should get the cable out of the box.
Chickie's school has a dress code rather than a uniform. Basically stuff in either red, white or navy. Funnily enough I rarely see any of the kids in white shirts.
fairlie, you would be surprised. I've had to close the curtains because the sun was glaring off the pc monitor. Possibly though not strong enough to dissolve tomato stains.
I don't know which box Stomper (and to be honest I'm not even sure it's in a box)
I found out today that they do a navy shirt with the school emblem on so i think i'll fork out and get a couple of those for him. Its that or send him to school in a shirt so big he could wear it as a dress if he was so inclined. Or possibly a kaftan. Delightfully shaded in brown (mud) and rust (tomatoes)

Tomato should come out with sunshine. O I see you have had that advice already, silly me.
You can get laundry bleach. Its the only thing that keeps himself's work shirts resembling white. It goes in the washing machine withthe soap etc. You can also use a "special application" of it to the area and leave it overnight, then wash it...
school uniform is only ever on sale during the holidays, when it can cause maximum stress to both children and parents, particularly when topped with brightly coloured letters saying, 'back to school'.
