Living

I've mentioned before that I've lived in a fair number of places over the years. Since MrV and I got together we have lived in 7 homes in 3 countries over 8 years. And everytime we've moved I've hated the new place until just before we move (again) when I realise that things weren't half as bad as I thought, and then I go on to miss the old place like mad once we have moved and regret moving in the first place. Part of the problem is that I am looking for somewhere where I will fit in, and not be so damn awkward around people. You see I am incredibly shy which has the downside of making me appear to be aloof, and rather stupid as I get very tonguetied with nerves.
My ideal place would be a mixture of Edinburgh (for friends, family and the city itself) and the Netherlands (for its liberal yet grownup society) with the weather of the tropics but without the hurricanes of course. Is that too much to ask?

Australia.

You can be yourself. The weather is good, and we don't go for that hoity toity attitude so if you seem aloof due to self consciousness, get over it or go home. :)

Greetings from the land of chocolate and chips.

As for the shyness, if you ever fancy pushing a pram round a park or something with someone who you sort of know through the blog and doesn't think you're stupid at all no matter how tongue tied you get, give us a shout.

(That took real courage saying that, shows how shy I get!)

I'm awkward around people too. I try to hide how weird I am, not always successfully. I'm like anchovies, not for everyone.

I was regarded as a snobby bitch if I didnt go down to drink in the Hotel GOM ran here in OZ, or I was regarded as a condescending bitch if I did go down for a drink.
There seemed no meeting point for me & the patrons. I never had that problem before, & certainly not in the Hotels in NZ. I seem to get along ok now. I must have just been the area. On the whole Aussies are great to get along with. And the climate is not bad either!

hell no, that is most definately not an unreasonable request!

i have to agree with aunt evil and meggie- i know every country likes to think they're a friendly bunch, but usually they're deluded. australia is though- espeically north queenslanders. something about our convict origins perhaps...

That's a lot of moving!

I've moved a bit in my life too (not as much as you!) and I'm sick of it. Every now and then J talks about getting a bigger place and I feel like running about screaming 'noooooo!!!'

Mind you, we've been in this house almost 8 years, you'd think I'd have 'recovered' by now ;)

I moved alot too, especially around university time and rapidly grew sick of it. Mr J and I are now agreed that the house we live in now will be a minimum 20 year stay!

I am the ultimate tongue-tied/awkward person. And reading this post reminded me (again - as it did at the time I first read your comment on one of my posts) that I would definitley love to say g'day when I am over in London. January 2nd and counting!

And the count looked so beautiful and peaceful in that picture a couple of posts ago.

Yes, come over here to Australia. I'm super shy too. My first boyfriend used to tell me off because he said I seemed too aloof, when I just never knew what to say to people!
