The Unexpected

I think I've mentioned once before that my best friend and I (so high schoolish sounding I know) had a huge argument back in October and haven't spoken since. It was a pretty horrible fight, lots of harsh words were said and at the time meant. But I read a post by Sarcastic Journalist and it made me think, so a few weeks back I emailed her to say hello. Heard nothing back and assumed that that was it, she didn't want to talk to me.
Then on Thursday night someone knocked on the door and it was my friend. She was outside London on business and had hired a car and driven for an hour to see me and sort things out! I can't say that things are the same as they were before we fought but I hope that we can salvage something from the mess.

MrV was supposed to go to up to Edinburgh this weekend for a stag party but backed out because of me and my crutches only for the groom to cancel the whole party because he's not particularly well. So instead of it just being the FB and myself squabbling at home we got to go on a gorgeous long walk through Regents Park in the sunshine.

For her to have made that much effort to visit you, you at least know there's strong motivation on her part to restore the friendship - imagine how many opportunities she had to turn the car around during an hour long trip! Better to give it a go and have it fizzle out than not even try, I reckon. Good luck :)

What kirsty said.

But also, I agree with you, that once things are said, they cannot be taken back, and it does, ultimately, change things forever.

That's very impressive - your friend must indeed want to mend things.

Sorry about the crutches. Edinburgh has been beautifully warm too, I'd like to point out! But does it need any more stag weekends? Hmmm....

Good luck with the friend. That you've both made overtures is a good sign.

That long dirve gave her a lot of time to think - and to back out. She didn't do it, you can be sure that you have a friend there.

Without wishing to sound too much like 'me too', it's great that she's made an effort to patch things up, but bear in mind you've still got differences (otherwise you wouldn't have had the fight) and things may never be the same again. I hope it works out.

I hope it works out for you both. Sometimes the changed relationship can work just as well, on a different level.
How nice you & Mr V got to spend some pleasant time together!

I'm glad you're getting a chance to patch things up. There are so many long lost acquaintances in my past -- wonder what they're all up to. Was worried by the title of this post that you were going to say you were in labor!
