Proper Bread

Thankyou, I think he's pretty cute too. Not however at 1am when he's fighting sleep for all he's worth, but definately at 2am when I rolled over in bed to find him finally fast asleep, bum in the air in that adorable yet surely uncomfortable position that only babies use.

Yesterday evening the FB and I made our very first loaf of bread in our brandnew breadmaking machine my parents gave us as a housewarming present (caused of a bit of an uproar with my sister who was given a potplant when she moved into her new home 5 years ago) and this morning we had it for breakfast with Farmers' Market eggs, and jam. And oh boy it was delicious. The price of bread has skyrocketed here over the last few months and the only bread costing less than £1 is of dubious character. MrV and I are trying to eat by Michael Pollen's rule of eating only what our great grandmothers would recognise as being food which works up until I want a diet coke.

I love baking bread when I get half a moment to myself, such as today when Madam is at childminder and I'm off sick. How do you find the breadmaker? I loved mine until I got a copy of The Ballymaloe Bread Book, upon trying their Ballymaloe Brown Yeast Bread and how horribly easy it is, I sold the breadmaker on ebay.

That was before I had Madam though and I do sometimes miss the convenience of being able to shove a load of ingredients in a pot and have bread at the end of it (never mind the crunchy metal impeller bit in the middle) and not have to mix anything.

Hey, you're back (or rather you've gone.. but you're blogging again anyhow).

And himself makes bread, now with Kathryn's help, but has done for a long time...

Yum.

And I like the Michael Pollen rule.

That last sentence has made me laugh and laugh, because I'm the same until I want an instant coffee!

the breadmaker is fantastic MrsT though i have only baked one loaf of bread so far. We're finishing off the last loaf of shopbought and then the experiment on homemade bread begins

and we never had our crochet lesson louiz. i'm still crocheting pyramids...

hello jorth, see now I can completely leave coffee, tea and hot chocolate but diet coke just has me hooked

Ahhh freshly baked bread is one of the best things ever.

Occasionally we'll set the breadmaker to be ready when we get up and although the 'thunk, thunk, thunk' of the mixing wakes me up, the delicious smell, when I get up, makes it worth it.
