Wheeeeeee!

We took the FB to the Tate Modern today, not, I hasten to add, to introduce him to the wonders of modern art, but because the Turbine Hall has these cool things in it:

They're slides! The FB had a fantastic time on them (he didn't go on either of the two above - they're for slightly taller people) and sobbed his heart out when we left. I was peeved too; I wanted to have a go but they don't let pregnant ladies on, and the exhibition will be over before the Peanut makes his appearance.

It's a shame the exhibition will be over before you can go on it Velcro. It would be a good way of bringing the Peanut on if he proves to run late!

Ugh, I can see my stomach at the top and my body at the bottom.

I seem to lose my adventurous side as I get older.

That looks like so much fun!
I would have sobbed my heart out, too.

How much fun does that slide look!? There should definitely be more playing equipment in art galleries and museums.

I would have been too chicken to go down it.

You're brave.

they had a smaller one Caro which only went down one floor. I thought he would be a bit too scared to go on it but he loved it. I wish it was a permanent exhibition

Those slides look brilliant, I'm peeved I won't be able to go on it. Mind you Little Miss T has already survived me slipping off a roof and putting my foot through a dodgy scaffold at 10 weeks, I can't see that fazing her.

Were you queuing long for it, cos we were thinking of taking my stepdaughter next time she's down?

fetuses are incredibly resiliant MrsT. The FB (in utero) coped marvellously with me falling off my boss' chair and landing on my wellpadded butt at 35 weeks. I on the other hand was convinced, as his head was engaged by then, that he had suffered some sort of head injury. As he is currently sitting on the floor clucking like a chicken for no apparent reason, I'm still not convinced that he didn't!
The queue for the slide suitable for little kiddies ie 90cm and up was about 15 min. The queue for tickets for the bigger ones was really long, but MIL and BIL were there at 10.30am yesterday and said that there weren't any queues.

This seems to me an excellent use for that interesting gallery space. Better, I'd have to say, than most modern art, but of course this is only my opinion...

I'm sure you never wrote any sillies in your history essays, by the way. Nor did I, of course. We were perfect.

Or, that's what I think till I (very very occasionally) read the diary I wrote when I was 15.

All I want for next Christmas is a taller art gallery in Sydney and THAT slide.

I would have loved that/those tall slides when i was young.
Now I get dizzy looking down gratings on the side of the road!

Thankyou for my lovely birthday greetings. Yes, NZ is just so green & pretty isnt it!

I would like to say I would go on that slide - from my chair on the other side of the world I would say that! But if I was there and saw it up close - I don't know? It looks VERY tall. You've got some great exhibitions on at your galleries.

I don't know if I could go on the really tall ones either, but the little one that the FB went on, I think I could just about manage that one.

Oh that looks like fun. What a nice indoor play option. We could use some of those around here. The thaw is on and all you hear outside is "drip, drip, drip" which I suppose is the sound of Spring coming.

ahha! i took the twins there last october half term - i held the coats - and blogged it. then i went myself while they were at school and had a go (most exhilarating!), and took them again for the most recent half term. just how pregnant are you, though? cos it wouldn't do to get stuck in there!!!!!!
it's a great use of the space - even better than the whiteread boxes (which i really liked). i wish they'd do that one with the big setting sun projection thing again. sigh ...

Terribly pregnant Muthas, and with a butt currently in competition with the bump to see which can get the bigger, I suspect going down an enclosed slide would be a disaster in waiting.
the whiteread boxes - was that the sugarcubes? I took my parents to see that one and was rather narked that you weren't allowed to move the boxes about. Missed the sun as the FB was very new then and leaving the house was a big scary deal.

yes indeed, it was the sugarcubes one. what i really liked about it was the reflections in the glass walls that made the whole thing look like it was going on for infinity - like an antarctic lanscape or something. the one just before that (and just after the sunset, i think) was a really creepy sound thing with whispering and hissing and horrible graunching noises that filled the whole hall. i ran out with my hands over my ears.

which is winning - bum or tum?

currently the tum though the bum may still leap ahead
