Timewarp

The postman arrived and with him came a box of Marguerite Patten's recipe cards dating from 1967 (including amongst the starters such delights as Grapefruit, and Prawn Cocktail, and from International Foods - spagbog. I love it!).
Of course this had to be photograped alongside a trio of Persephone novels, and shot in sepia.

Now my mum was her greatest fan. I think she still has many of her recipe books. But that's far too fuddy duddy for me, I'm right up to the minute with Delia, or at least my 25 year old copy.
Cheers

Ahhh I remember those days when thousand island dressing was so exotic, liebfraumilch was the height of sophistication, and babycham was the cool thing to drink. I still think so.

Prawn cocktails were my favourite entree choice when we ate out (rarely) as children.

Maddy - my mum has her recipe cards and I have silently craved a set of my own.

MrsT - worse than liebfraumilch - Blue Nun. Ugh.

Fairlie - I still love prawn cocktails.

I had to enlarge your photo to read the spines on the Persephones. Have you read Miss Pettigrew - I read it earlier this year and thought it a bit of a hoot!

Love the photo - great colours.

I haven't Nutmeg. I'm reading Special Assignments by Boris Akunen and then it's a toss up between Miss Pettigrew and House-Bound.

I was just given for free, part of a 'Marguerite Patten's Recipe Cards' set and a lot of the cards are missing .... Does anyone know where I might be able to collect the rest of the recipes?

I just love the recipes, they do send me back to a time when I wasn't even born (LOL). They are so groooovey baby!

Yes I too loved 'Prawn Cocktail' as a kid when mum and I went out to dinner. To me it sounded really fancy and exotic.

There are a few recipes amongst the cards using 'suet' (animal fat)such as: 'Jam Suet Pudding' or 'Fruit Suet Pudding' .... mmm, I'm not sure about those ones though!! ;)
